Proposed amendment by Libby Rahl 😉
Freedom From Religion Act
Which will state that
- No law may be made that references religion or religious beliefs as justification except in cases to protect religious freedom. All justification for proposed laws are to be based on legal precedent and secular ethics.
- No elected official: government, state or city employee may reference their religious beliefs in a professional capacity. Violators will be fired (through whatever process the employer has) and will be ineligible for reemployment in an official capacity. Religious accommodations are still protected (you just pray privately. religious clothing such as hijab are still protected, dietary restrictions, etc)
- If a church makes any political contributions, endorsements, etc they automatically and permanently lose tax-free status. If they get involved with politics, they are now a political organization. Tax them. Obviously, politicians can be part of the church, but they are to be treated exactly the same as every other member of the congregation. Any political communication endorsed by the church will result in immediate revocation of tax free status for 25 years. They can try again next generation.
- Private prayer groups are allowed at school, work, etc however, must be private. separate classroom, etc. No one should be able to witness it unless they are a participant or willing observer
- No discrimination allowed on basis of religious beliefs. This includes doctors, judges, police, teachers, absolutely everyone working with people outside of their beliefs.
ex don't like gays? Too bad. Bake the cake. if you want to serve/work with/do business with the public, you have to with ALL the public -equally- regardless of your belief system.
added - remove "Under God" from currency, Pledge of Allegiance, etc

No one is forced to listen to your beliefs and you can't solicit. this means :
No standing on a street corner with a megaphone shouting your beliefs. Protests/activism cannot have any kind of sound amplifier without a permit.
No going door-to-door trying to convert people to your beliefs. (Goes along with an upcoming article about door to door solicitation in general)

Your religious beliefs and practices only apply to you, not your children when it comes to basic needs/care. You cannot deny your children medical care, you cannot have child brides, etc if your only reason is religious. If an atheist would be charged with neglect for refusing medical care, so does a religious person. If you don't want a blood transfusion, don't get one, but you can't refuse life saving care based on religious beliefs. No more gay conversion therapy. You don't have to *like* your child's sexuality, but you're not allowed to harm them. Basically if it's abuse with anyone else, religion doesn't give you a pass
just a rough draft. anything to add? fine tune?
just me out here thinking...

There's always going to be asshats that find loopholes to force their religion onto laws; but that works both ways. For instance, EVERY female Governor, Speaker, Vice President, Senator, etc. MUST permanently step down. Why? 1 Timothy 2:12 for starters. There are more verses, but I bet you see where this is going. I was a youth minister way back when, but I've almost always been a "tax-the-churches" liberal. And I only got worse as I got older.
Peace be until you all.
