"I don't consent to seeing your kink"
No one fucking asked you 🖕💅
A few truths to choke on:
1. Being aware of someone's sexuality or sexual preferences is not inherently kinky, and that line of thinking was the exact legal justification used to oppress us, so you're really gonna wanna take a few seats. If you don't bitch about a wedding ring, shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.
People need to understand a few truths about sexuality, and understand that it's not up to them. A big hairy bearded guy wearing a frilly skirt and a collar is no more sexually explicit than a cishet man wearing an "I love my wife" shirt. Two men holding hands is no more sexually explicit than a man and a woman holding hands.
The only difference is what society normalizes and accepts versus what it shames.
2. We already have legal definitions as to what is or is not considered sexually explicit. If legally permissible in a PG-13 movie, then it is permissible in public. Don't like the laws? Run for office and change them. Good luck
3. If it's permissible in public, THEN YOU CONSENTED to seeing it the minute you decided to join the public. Don't like it? Stay home or don't look.
4. You don't get to decide what someone else gets to consent to seeing. You're only in charge of YOUR choices.
5. Although this is not only about gay people or Pride, Pride is a protest- expect participants and behavior to reflect this 🧱
Yes, the initial phrase is one against gay people, trans people, and pride celebrations, but it's the exact same thinking that says that a woman who doesn't have long hair, big tits, and a 'baby girl" t-shirt using a woman's restroom isn't woman enough. Ciswomen are being attacked for not performing their femininity enough. Ask Imane Khelif
It's the exact same thinking that punishes teenage girls for having a visible bra strap and making her responsible for other people's comfort.
It's the exact same thinking behind “don't say gay laws” and the phrase “illegal immigrant”.
It is a very slippery and dangerous slope from "this makes me uncomfortable" to "mine is only definition of existence" to "this doesn't get to exist". We don't get to dictate how other people exist.
Just a reminder that the Nazis started with the gay, the transgender, the disabled, etc using the same exact justification: We shouldn't have to acknowledge that these exist, and therefore we are justified in eradicating it
I don't give a fuck if it makes you uncomfortable. Learn how to live with it like you deal with it when the sun makes you uncomfortable. The sun ain't going anywhere and neither are we so go find some shade 💅
You aren't owed comfort.
We are owed an equal place in this world and we will fight for it by any means necessary.
