I have a few articles out lately that challenge the patriarchy rather passionately (in other words, I'm pissed), and I recently got feedback that pointed out that it's not all men. They fully understood and agreed with why I was so angry, just basically wondering why I don't differentiate and speak of them as a group.
My response taken directly from the text so that I can clarify my stance to all of you 🙂
When I'm speaking of "men", I'm talking about the ones who uphold the patriarchy which is the vast majority of them. Obviously I know it's not all men or I wouldn't be married. But the problem is, people want to talk so much about how it's "not all men" which diverts the attention and focus away from holding accountable the men that ARE. This is a great example because instead of talking about how to hold men accountable, we are talking about *which* men should be held accountable. And this happens over and over.
I am not angry at every single man. I'm angry at the patriarchy and those who fight to uphold it at the expense of others. It just happens to be that the Venn diagram between people who uphold the patriarchy and people who identify as men is nearly an eclipse.
It might not be all men, but not only should there not be any, all men are responsible for it because all men benefit from the patriarchy in some way. Every person is obligated to use their privilege to help others, not benefit from and further oppress.
Otherwise they are contributing to the problem, and it IS them
Yes my anger came from somewhere. My anger came from the fact that there is not a single part of our lives that would not be made better by abolishing the patriarchy. My anger comes from the fact that we live in this world because we protect men's feelings more than other people's fundamental rights.
Of course I'm angry. I'm angry because we don't have to live like this. I'm angry because not getting angry and not challenging them is how we got here.
Plus if you've seen some of the remarks that I've seen about Kamala Harris and the rest of them, you would be pretty disgusted and angry, too. The amount of filth and disgusting things said about them for doing nothing but existing is enraging 🤬

I'm angry because in 1973 a bunch of people freaked out when women got bodily autonomy and created the Heritage Foundation which has been instrumental in nearly every part of oppression in this country since the Reagan administration. They openly admit in their own publication
I'm angry because marital rape was not outlawed in the last of the 50 states until a week after Lorena Bobbitt defended herself. She defended herself on June 23rd, 1993. The last state to outlaw marital rape did so on July 5, 1993. I'm angry that she still a punchline. Lest you think I am only holding men accountable, I am also looking at you, Lizzo. You took out one word but you kept her in there. Do better.
I'm angry that in 2005, the Supreme Court ruled that the police do not have an obligation to protect people and instead of talking about the three children murdered by their father and the murderer’s history of domestic violence, they spent more time talking about the word “shall”. A battered woman and her three murdered children were of no concern to the Supreme Court.
I'm angry that in 2008, the country freaked out so much that we elected a Black man to president that the government absolutely refused to work with him and openly challenged everything he tried to get done for the country because he was a Black man. I'm angry that in 2008, we gave a racist barely functional idiot air time.
I'm angry because in 2016 the country voted in a president who openly mocked a disabled reporter and bragged about sexual assault and is a known rapist. I'm angry that Clarence Thomas was ever appointed to the Supreme Court. I'm angry that Brett Kavanaugh was ever appointed to the Supreme Court. I'm angry that we still talk about Monica Lewinsky but we don't talk about Paula Jones. Paula Jones began all of it when she tried to hold the president accountable for his harassment of her.
I am angry that right now a confirmed rapist, domestic terrorist, bigoted asshole has the chance to even run for president with a guy who openly says things like women shouldn't leave men that beat them, and there's an actual legal chance that these people could become the president and vice president of our country.
Yeah, I'm angry. Question is, who else is and who wants to help me end this shit?

To me, the "not all men" crowd is akin to the bad cop analogy; if you have 95 good cops but 5 bad ones, and the 95 don't do anything about it...you have 100 bad cops.
I'm a man. I see the idiots holding up the patriarchy as "guys" at best and "overgrown boys" at worst (and it's usually the worst). There might not be a hell of a lot I can do, but even the little I can is better than nothing (or actively fucking people over because I look white and have XX chromosomes).
And I agree about the anger over "a black President? <clutches pearls>" and both racist/rapist asshats. Keep up the good work.
